The lake stood alone, shining silver by the light of the moon. The water was undisturbed - on this night, no breeze blew, and no animal sought shelter or sustenance from it.
But now a disturbance came; soft ripples danced across the surface, hardly even enough to make a noise. Into the lake entered two people. One, a man both as pale as the moon and dark as the night. His beauty was not hidden by the ragged clothes he worse. The other was a woman - bright and proud as the sun. Her hair was loose in wild curls, and her face and skin was devoid of any decorations, but she wore a fine dress that only the rich could afford.
Despite their differences, the two intruded on the lake's silence and danced together, slowly and softly, to a music that only they could hear. They held each other tight, almost as if when they let go, they would both disappear to opposite ends of the world. The love that they had was true, and things such as society and status did not matter. It was because of this that the lake agreed to share its cool waters with them, and the the moon its silver light.
All too soon for the couple, the night began to fade. They stood still now, embracing each other so tightly, the two might have become one. They looked deeply into each other's eyes and then kissed, long and hard, but yet still so gently and passionately. Hesitantly, she broke away from him. She smiled sadly, trying to hold back her tears, then disappeared back into the forest.
He stood alone in the lake until the dawn came. He slowly walked to shore, his tears shining as golden as the sunlit water around him.

Comments
As for the ending my suggestion is to describe the man's sorrow and yearning for the women.
I hope you're poem becomes what you want it to be.
but
i think you could modify all this:
"All too soon for the couple, the night began to fade.
He slowly walked to shore, his tears shining as golden as the sunlit water around him."
and yet
it is Perfect...
